Value Added: How Anchor Institutions are Adopting a Social Determinants of Health Lens

Tuesday September 24, at 12:30 p.m.

Join us for the first in a series of webinars highlighting how members of the Anchor Institutions Task Force’s Health Professionals Subgroup are applying a Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) lens to their community engagement.  The webinar follows the publication of a paper produced by the Subgroup, Value Added: Adopting a Social Determinants of Health Lens.  The first webinar will present two of the case studies featured in the paper: The University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing in Philadelphia, PA; and Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, OH.

SDOH are the social and economic conditions that influence health outcomes. When individuals lack access to resources such as employment, safe and affordable housing, high quality education, access to healthy foods, etc., health inequities arise creating systematic differences in the health outcomes of population groups.  Member institutions of  the Health Subgroup are committed to addressing SDOH and health inequities in their communities. They have sought to address multiple determinants from housing, employment and education, to economic development, food, and safe spaces.

Through the webinar series, participants will gain a deeper understanding of:

  • Strategies that these institutions have employed to address SDOH
  • Challenges and successes that they have experienced
  • Metrics that they are using to measure success
